It really took me over one year to go home. I cannot believe it. I saw my mum in autumn but I had not seen my brother in quite a while and even when I was home now he was quite busy with studying for his exams while I had quite a filled schedule too… Theatre, seeing friends and family, a little bit of shopping and two workouts that I squeezed in.
On Wednesday, 04th February I flew home and surprisingly everything went well, way to well for my taste… but hey, the flight back was a bit chaotic again instead.
With my mum I was two times in our theatre in Lübeck. At first we were at the ballet. Our theatre in Lübeck got together with the theatre in Kiel and brought the Swan Lake onto the stage. I wanted to see Swan Lake for quite a while, so it was just the perfect opportunity that it was on when I was home. I am not the biggest ballet fan but this was on my to see list and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I am so happy that I finally saw the Swan Lake and somehow most of the music was familiar to me.
Two days later we were in the theatre again to see Raiders on the Storm, a play about the Doors and Jim Morrison. Andreas Hutzel was absolutely brilliant as Jim Morrison, you sometimes forgot that you are in a play and that you are watching the band itself when they performed songs such as Raiders on the Storm, Break on Through or Light my Fire. No wonder there was an encore of two songs and standing ovations after three hours (including one break).
The morning after my arrival I went for a short run, and believe it or not, it was all white outside. A little bit of snow had covered the ground. During the 30 minutes most of the snow melted again but still I went out when it was all white. Since I started running I never ran on snow. On the Friday morning my mum and I went to a pilates class. I really like it because you are a little bit more active than in a yoga class but lets face it, a warm up like in a aerobic class was not really my cup of tea and talking in a class is not what I like either, apart from instructions from the trainer of course.
On Friday I went to Hamburg to see my best friend. We had planned to go to a party we used to go to every first Friday of the month but it was so cold so we stayed in, ate pizza and Ben ‘n Jerry’s, played Mario Kart (on the Nintendo 64 – so we were reliving the past slightly different than planned – haha) and watched a movie with her boyfriend (okay, I watched maybe 30 or 45 minutes, then I fell asleep – guess I have to watch Iron Man again another day).
On the next day we went shopping – now I have everything again to improve my swimming, wohooo – and to the bunker next to the main station. We wanted to see that bunker for quite a while a we finally managed to see it. The tour was about two hours and really interesting. I never really thought what is hidden under the sidewalk next to the main station.
One day I also saw my grandparents again, especially my grandmother was happy to see me. Apart from the one or the other phone call we only have contact through letters. A quick comment under a photo on Facebook to say hello is just not possible with everyone in the family.
When being in Germany I also bought two new cookbooks – Vegetarian for lazy people (Vegetarisch für Faule) and 20 minutes are enough! Vegetarian (20 Minuten sind genug! Vegetarisch). I want to try some new recipes but then again I do not really want to stay in the kitchen for a really long time. Sometimes I simply do not really have the patience to stand ages next to the pot until the food is finally ready or simply do not have the time. So, I started to try out recipes from the books this week. The two ones I tried so far were so yummy and quite easy to prepare. I am really eager to try out more of them…
The meal on the left was meant to be a bit less and then eaten with rice for instance. I had it as main course and then something sweet afterwards. I wanted to eat the same again today but unfortunately I did not have enough broccoli left in the freezer… The one the right was perfect for work and although the portion looked huge at first, it was just right.
The flight back was unfortunately a little bit different as expected (read about the adventure here) so I got home for additional 82€ and a couple of hours later. Nonetheless, on Tuesday morning I was back at the gym lifting weights. Apart from skipping the Intervals session for a normal run and eating too much chocolate this weekend I think I am back on track after the holidays for my first run on 07th March in Phoenix Park.
Have a nice week. I definitely will because I will be off for three days. :)
